Mountain Top Strings of California, is under the direction of Sharon Rizzo, and is now under the umbrella of the Lighthouse Project of Big Bear. MTSC is a youth orchestra that was originally created specifically for performance and travel abroad. It draws students from Big Bear and Lake Arrowhead areas. The first tour to Italy and Austria in 2013 was a huge success, with performances in the Chapel at Schonbrunn Palace in Vienna, Austria as well as the Chiesa di San Pietro di Castello in Venice Italy. Musicians are currently preparing for a 2016 tour with performances planned in Rome, Tuscany and Venice, Italy.
In addition to touring abroad, our orchestra members are invited to perform many eclectic programs and collaborate with other ensembles for special projects. In 2014, we performed with the world class electric string quartet from Britain, “String Fever”, the Pasadena Youth Orchestra, Led Zepagain and the San Bernardino Symphony.
The MountainTop Strings was founded in 2011 by Sharon Rizzo with her friend and pianist, Barbara King.
