Lighthouse Youth Orchestra

Lighthouse Youth Orchestras, known asLYO” is a tuition based,  upper level strings program open to students in grades 5-12, and have had at least one year of study. These upper level students perform many genres of music in local concerts and compete in regional music festivals. Our mountain musicians also participate in the San Bernardino County Honors Orchestra, where many have been awarded principal positions.   LYO students also perform in solo concerts and competitions.

In addition to orchestral instruction, LYO offers a Chamber Music Program and Private Lessons. All instruction is outside of school hours. We have ensembles for the very serious student, and also for students who enjoy other activities and wish to participate in an orchestra as a hobby, social outlet or to enrich their lives with music.

The four levels of “LYO”:

Junior Orchestra: Grades 4-6 with at least 1 year of experience

Middle School Orchestra: Grades 7 & 8 with a minimum of 2 years of study.

High School Orchestra: Grades 9-12 with a minimum of 3-4 years in an orchestra.

Young Artists Ensemble:  This small ensemble is by audition for 7th-12th graders who have an exceptionally high level of skill. We will focus on very challenging repertoire of many styles with an emphasis on original works of the baroque period.  In addition to our regular season concerts, members of the Young Artists Ensemble will also work on special musical projects & collaborations throughout the year.

MountainTop Strings is a collective of youth strings ensembles which have transformed our mountain community into a robust, thriving, and cultured musical destination for both the connoisseur and student of music. Our programs serve students 8 - 18 years of age, from beginning to advanced levels. MTS is known for its eclectic repertoire and variety of performance opportunities for our musical youth.
